Connor Fisher

Connor advises clients on the full breadth of planning and environmental law in Western Australia, with a particular focus on the oil and gas, resources, industrial and property development sectors. He has acted for ASX-listed companies, major landowners, infrastructure operators and substantial private companies on environmental approvals under State and Commonwealth legislation, the decommissioning of oil and gas infrastructure, contaminated sites and remediation liability, land access and tenure and development and subdivision proposals. He is individually recognised as a leading Planning & Environment lawyer in Western Australia by Doyle's Guide, having been named a Rising Star in the same field in 2019. He joined McLeod Fisher & Hamdorf in 2014 and the firm's directorship in 2023.

Connor acts on projects across their full lifecycle, from approvals, referral and assessment requirements and land tenure at the development stage, through operational compliance and dealing with regulatory authorities at the local, State and federal level, to closure, decommissioning and the transfer of remediation liability. He also provides strategic advice on civil and criminal liability for environmental and planning offences, land clearing, waste and landfill, contamination and remediation (including PFAS), developer contributions, strategic planning, rezoning and scheme amendments, and acts in compensation claims for the reservation and compulsory taking of land.

Connor has also conducted numerous planning and environmental disputes in the State Administrative Tribunal, the Magistrates Court, the District Court, the Supreme Court and in private arbitration. 

Connor has served on the Planning Institute of Australia's WA State Committee, the Urban Development Institute of Australia's WA Outlook Committee, and the WA Branch of the National Environmental Law Association. He has also tutored in town planning and environmental law at Murdoch University and mining law at the University of Western Australia, has published in the Australian Environment Review and has authored and edited case summaries for the Local Government Law Journal.

Connor holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Political Science and International Relations) from the University of Western Australia.
